Each hymn is hand-drawn to include classic hymns known worldwide. Everything shown is hand-drawn and original from the music notes, calligraphy lyrics, and the hand-painted border. Atlanta artist, Joanna Geeker, received several requests for modern depictions of old and classic tunes; with a deep nostalgia for memories, and for family stories about grandparents and family members singing old hymns together, Joanna got the idea to modernize something she finds so nostalgic, food for the soul, and beauty for the eyes. She is a big believer that seeing and writing words can touch the heart and the soul, and it's essential to be surrounded with uplifting words of beauty. However, with classic hymns being dated and sung from generation to generation, she didn't want the artwork to lose it's luster; therefore, each hymn is hand-drawn and decorated with modern borders that can be used anywhere from dorm room art to family dining rooms. The inspiration is the same--no matter where each hymn lands, the hope is to restore the words sung from generation to generation, in hopes of thinking of family members that once sang the same tunes; the music notes are written so that the song can be played by the piano. Each music note is written in gold Kuretake calligraphy Japanese ink, and then outlined in porcelain paint. Joanna takes great attention to detail in making sure each music note is correct, and each lyric is written so that the song can be played, read, seen or admired as an eye-catching form of modern decor (in hopes that the old, classic and nostalgic notes can be read, appreciated, and used to inspire). The hymns are Catholic, Christian, or worldwide gospel hymns known throughout the world, sung throughout every Christian church, hummed throughout the day, and saved in the heart of every home.
